Experience Points (XP) are awarded to players for completing tournaments and versus matches. Collecting enough experience points advances you up through the levels. Points are awarded according to how high you ranked in the match, the number of holes played, and the number of opponents. The amount of experience earned can be boosted by equipping various items, such as Joy Candies, or by hiring Puff as a mascot. There may also be events where extra experience points are offered. At present, Rookie-level players can earn double experience points by playing on the Tiki server.
These tables show the experience points earned for various matches, before any bonuses from items, mascots or events. They are accurate for Seasons 1-3 but will change in Season 4.
Versus (individual stroke play)
In seasons 1-3, experience points awarded for individual versus matches are calculated by the following formula:
|(Holes – 1) × (Players – Position + 1)|
If a player leaves part-way through the game, the holes used for calculation are split, effectively removing a hole from the calculation. This means it is possible to win a 3-hole game without getting any experience points.
From Season 4 onwards, the experience awarded is affected by the course difficulty level. In Season 4 the courses are rated from 1-5 stars (changed from earlier seasons' 1-3 stars). Since April 2010, rates have been adjusted to normalize the gain between positions, so that 1st Place will tend to gain slightly less exp than previously but 4th Place will gain significantly more.
